Mountboards: choosing the right white
You’d like a white mount board? Sure. But which white though?….
Yes, there’s more than one shade of white – from Very White to Antique White, via Soft White, Simply White, Arctic White, Ivory White, and Off White to name just some.
And those are just from the two brands of mount boards that I use in my framing.
If you were to lay all the whites together you would see the gradations of colour and that they are really quite different.
If you look at just two together you may be hard pressed to tell the difference between them if the shades are really close.
But which white you choose can make a huge difference to the look of the artwork: the difference between it looking okay and it looking great.

Does it take ages to choose which shade of white is the best?
The longest time that a client and I have spent settling on which shade of white mount board to use was 20 minutes.
The look on the client’s face when she saw the finished framed artwork was all the proof needed that it was time well spent; that we’d got it spot on.
